Cyber Crime: Recognition, Prevention and Reporting

In today’s world, when everything is aided, rather controlled, by Cyber World, there is hardly any family or even corporate left which has not suffered an attempt by cyber crooks to usurp their hard-earned money. The irony is that most tech-savvy people have fallen victim to cybercrime.
Realising this emergent need, we organised an awareness session on Cyber Crime: Recognition, Prevention and Reporting.
The session was undertaken by Shri DJ Panchal, Inspector of Police, and Shri D M Panchal, Police Sub Inspector from Cyber Crime, Vadodara Range, Gujarat Police.

The speakers covered important aspects of Cyber Crime like types of crimes and how to avoid them. They informed about various types of cyber crimes done through free antivirus software, free wi-fi, lottery, games, social media, job offers, matrimonial sites, dating sites, Olx app, QR code etc. Fraudsters run their business in fear. In today’s world, any data in digital mode, may it be any device, is unsafe.

Many important tips and real-life incidents were shared by the speakers to create awareness. The preventive majors suggested were to keep changing the passwords, update your device’s OS as well as apps, don’t keep the simple password keep different passwords for different accounts, not accept unknown friend requests, not open links with blue lines, not save copies and images of driving license, pan card, bank statements, visit your bank for KYC, don’t fall in fraudsters trap, bring awareness in the society.

Cybercrooks lure needy people, and people who live in fear of family, peers, relatives, and society. Timely reporting of fraud can save your hard earn money, for which one can contact on cyber crime state helpline number 1930 and National cyber crime helpline number 155260.

The speakers answered the questions and queries of the audience at the end.

We organised the event in association with the Faculty of Management Studies, as an awareness drive on ‘Cyber Crime: Recognition, Prevention and Reporting’ on 25th June 2022 at Pandit Deendayal Upadhayay Auditorium, MSU.

The program received a great response and participation from different organizations in Vadodara like L&T, Netafim, Gulbrandsen, Inox India, Civica, Collabera, Acumen, RR Kabel, Odysseus Solutions, Jayant Agro, Kusters Calico, Cosmos Engineering, Allscripts, and many other companies and students of MSU were present. More than 120 participants attended the program.
